Eligibility
Signups for HOTH 8 are now closed. We will only be accepting and displaying submissions from those who signed up through the form. Only UCLA students will be eligible to receive prizes.
Requirements
To submit a project,
- Record and upload a short 2-3 minute video presentation of your project. We recommend including:
- An overview of what your project is
- How your project relates to the theme
- What you used to make your project
- A demo/preview of your actual project
- Any especially noteworthy features
- Devpost will ask you about a "Project Overview" and ask you to write a story about creating the project. This is for the purpose of sharing your project and will not be used in the judging process.
- Optional: A link to your code
- Optional: You may also upload images of your working project/project plans
- After the project overview, in "Additional Info" you will be asked to answer the following questions. Please be clear in answering them - these will be very important in judging!
- Project Creators
- On a high level, what is your project?
- What technologies did you use?
- How did you use these technologies in your project?
- How does your project relate to HOTH's theme of Care and Connection?
- What functionality does your code currently have? Does it run?
- Any other cool features we should know about?
Reminders:
- Anything you submit must be built solely during the hacking period of HOTH.
- Submissions must be from teams of 1 to 4 individuals, all of whom have registered for the event on Devpost, and are not workshop instructors, mentors, or organizers.

Judging Criteria
-
Idea
As generic as it sounds, every project truly does start with an idea. We'll be looking for projects that are unique and have potential to be something more. -
Adherence to Theme
HOTH 8's theme is Care and Connections. Make something that can perhaps help people care for themselves or others, or allow people to connect! -
Project Demo
Although brief, the project demo is one of the most important components. Effective demos will not only give judges a clear understanding of the projects but also "sell" the project as the best. -
Technical Complexity
We hope that in the 2 days you work on your project, you progress your coding abilities and try something new. You never know what you might achieve with a different approach and/or different tools! -
Polish
Considering HOTH 8 is only 2 days, perfection is unrealistic. However, try to get your project to a state that you could show it off to others, and they could use it!
